All,
I'm looking for some guidance on the set up of my alternator and especially about charging my house batteries via the selector switch.
In Fig 1 below, the red circles come from the alternator to the battery. Then there is a link from that battery lug on to the switch (not sure which point yet as can’t get switch face off).
Fig 2 – The negative is in blue, there are two separate cables coming from the negative point on the engine, one is black and goes to the battery in the picture, the other is the green/yellow ones,
which doesn’t go anywhere, but I assume that this should go to the negative on the house battery set?
From what I know, the cable from the alternator should go to the common ‘lug’ on the selector switch, and the negative can be fed either from the negative bolt on the engine or from the ‘starter’ battery.
It looks like the battery connector from the positive lug on the battery that’s currently being fed from the alternator, is going to the selector for the common on the switch.
Is this ok to do or should we only connect the alternator to the common switch only?
