over the sailing years, I have found alternative cheaper sources for a few of the bits that sailors need. you may have found others. so lets all pool our ideas

anchor chain (inc calibrated) - lifting tackle specialsts - yellow pages
shackles inc stainless - lifting tackle specialsts - yellow pages
rope - fishing fleet chandlers
oil filters - car spares
fan belts - fenner power transmissions - yellow pages
piston rings / bearing shells etc - engine rebuilders - yellow pages
epoxy/poly paint - industrial paint specialists - yellow pages

any other ideas?

I had some stainless sheet cut and bent at a local stainless fabricator I found in the yellow pages very cheaply.

Also new acrylic for my windows came from a local sign supplier for a few quid.

Caravan shops often have the same parts, packaged differently but cheaper.
Also specialist places for Stainless Screws and Bolts - Anglia Stainless nr Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Try your local Bearing Services (BSL in the Phone book) for bearings, belts (all sorts), seals etc.
