A shameless plug for John who runs http://www.allgadgets.co.uk/.

I recently bought a NASA log and a pair of repeaters for the log and one for my NASA wind which I bought from him last year. I have bought many items from him and all have turned up quickly. He has answered any questions promptly and honestly.

I have had a problem with the log not talking to the repeater, I emailed John on my return from the boat and immediatly I was sent out another repeater to try, this without him expecting the first one to be returned, it turned out the log was at fault, so I posted both the new repeater and log back. Within a couple of days I have had a new log unit sent out.

All this at an extreemly busy time for anyone selling marine goods, i.e. over the Easter break. Emails were sent back and forth and I was kept well advised of his intentions. I have yet to try the new log, but don't expect any more problems.

I write this as it is very easy to recomend a company when all goes well, but I feel the attention I have been given is as though I had popped into my local corner store while allgadgets is at the other end of the country. Service has been prompt and friendly. Well done john (milltek on here), thank you for fabulous service.

I fully recomend any one to use the store, the prices are unmatched too.

I am not linked to allgadgets in any way, just a happy customer, I always like to recommend people who give me outstanding service

Re: Seconded. nm

Thanks all. It's very nice to be thought well of, but I've gone bright red and embarrassed here!

Perhaps not such a paragon - discuss

In August a customer purchased a Clipper Depth sounder and negotiated a reduction to exclude the transducer.

In December he wrote to me demanding a 100% refund because the unit had never worked, further he said he had had to locally buy a replacement transducer because he thought his was faulty, and that is how, he says, he found out the Nasa unit didn't work.

At no time between August and his letter had he asked me if he could buy the transducer, which he could have had "next day" for his cost deduction plus £2.95 carriage, nor did he turn to me for help first. Surely the first place to turn if there is a problem is the dealer who sold it?

As others know, in similar circumstances I have charged out transducers and offered 100% buy back refunds if they are returned not needed. (I'd have to do it anyway but it helps everyone to make the offer).

He finally returned the unit in January, I sent it to Nasa who did whatever they did, and I returned it to him fixed. Without being asked I also refunded his carriage charge.

I have refused his request for a 100% refund so now he says he's taking me to Court. I asked him for proof of purchase for the replacement transducer and he has sent me an invoice for £85! It turns out to be a Navico transducer and not a Nasa one anyway, (I'm still trying to figure that out).

I am also asking to see his invoice for the replacement Depth Sounder, will this be Nasa or some other?

Conclusion. I react according to how I'm dealt with, so if Jools, Twister Ken, Jimi and others feel they had good service, then I think its probable that their goodwill got them the good service. Would I have reacted so well if Jools had written for help differently to the way he did? Maybe. Good service is my policy of course, and I try my best, but how far we go, any of us, I think is determined by how we are treated. It's a case of do-as-you-would-be-done by.

For me it will probably end up being cheaper to have refunded this mans Clipper, but although I haven't yet quite worked out why, I'm sure I'm being taken to the cleaners and his tone of blame and aggression has just rubbed me up the wrong way.

BTW, any amateur sleuths who frequent Port Solent want to have a peek for me?

Your opinions welcomed. What would you do?
