Does anyone have experience of this stuff? I am considering using it for OUTSIDE cushions -they'll be protected by bimini, and it wd be rare that seawater hits them really. Though i understand the stuff can "take it?". Any experience?

My only comment would be- if it does get wet, water will most likely soak in, which may be hard to dry out. Speak to Comfort Afloat in Gosport- they did my cushions a couple of years ago and are really helpfull. Companies like aquador are now using non vinyl cushions on their cockpit seats, it may be worth further investigation.

It's not really suitable - it absorbs moisture, isn't very UV resistant, and is not designed for outdoor use. For that sort of money, there are much better options available.

If you want a luxury, outside fabric, a much better solution is Extex. It is salt, chlorine and UV resistant, can be pressure washed, and feels like a luxury cheneel. There are loads of colours available.

One source is my wfe, Helen. Feel free to ring on 01929 424739.

Alcantara is wonderful stuff - i've had on cars for years and on internal boat upolstery, it is tough and washable and could be used externally . It can take a few drops of seawater but this will leave a white mark which must always be cleaned.

This Extex stuff sounds good - it's bound to be even more expensive than Alcantara though, which is not cheap in itself. I have seen a 3M Alcantara copy which is cheaper and with which one owner i know is very satisfied.

I've got Alcantara uphostery inside. Seems ideal - even used engine oil and red wine stains can be sponged out with soapy water. However, it holds quite a lot of water and would dry very slowly outside - probably not suitable for that sort of use.

Alcantara looks and feels fab. But it is not suitable at all for outside use. It looks crap when wet and more importantly, wears very badly. Stick to vinyl/canvas and forget anything else. Alll IMO of couse.
