have a 4 hp yanmar aircooled diesel connected to an alternator for battery charging ...would like to build an insulated box around it with baffled inlet ,outlet and forced air for cooling....don,t know the engineering ie. cubic feet of air per min. for cooling etc. have e-mailed yanmar but no reply, so am prepared to experiment as such any advice will be much appreciated....thanks.

No experience of the yanmar. but i hav e used a 2 cyl petter in a sea cadet 27' whaler. this is boxed in, but to get adequate cooling there are flaps in each side that have to be left open. This makes it just as noisy. These flaps also have to be closed incase of an engine fire so need to be accessible. It was probably only boxed in to cover the moving parts. It does sound a lot quiter with them closed but I suspect it would overheat very quickly. Not a lot of help in your case but petter might be able to give you some idea about dimensions and air volumes.
