When Arthur Wood came to the Mercury forum meet we booked him into the RAF Yacht Club in Hamble because this was just about the only thing left after everything else booked. We had been practising the Dam busters and speaking with plums in our mouths and were greeted by the Steward who made formal introductions and explained the rules of the club. Despite being convinced that at any moment we were going to be asked what regiment we were with and the make of our yacht it all turned out to be very friendly with no awkward questions.

Nice bar with good beer, restaurant looked good although we did not see any food. Room was comfortable although not en-suite. Given own key for all hours access and YC had television room showers etc. Cost was £50 for double room although only cereals for breakfast. Beautiful spot and well worth considering.
