Have had my present boat for nearly three years and have always had the nagging felling that she was not going as well as she could.Comments from other posters who have said that my P33 should be quicker have been explained away by me as being down to weight of booze/fuel etc.Tanks can hold nearly 300 Gals .
Have always replaced the air filters and the fuel filters on the engines every year so everything should have been hunky dory, but best speed was about 15knots and was no better off even after scrub and antifoul and then prop rebuild.
Then one bright morning decided to check the two filters on the engine room bulk head, the ones with the glass bowls on the bottom. As there had never been any sign of any poo in the bowls had just drained em and refitted.Decided to change one just for the hell of it and crikey slight rev rise, thought sod it will change both.
Whee whoosh 3300 rpm and just over 18 knots. One of the filters was virtually blocked and not giving its all and was holding the revs down on the other engine.
Filter prices
Volvo 16.00 + vat each (dealer was of course closed)
Cav from Halfords (bloody useless and very unhelpful to boot.) 10.00 ish
Local motor factor 1.80 + vat.each Very helpful and open late sat PM.

18 knots ?

You need a couple of D6-310's in there. 30knots, no problem...

Suggested additional equipment to be purchased with repower:
- Extra strength wig adhesive
- Fiddled Bovril / Ovaltine holders
- Grabrails in the heads
- Stannah stairlift to flybridge

Ha, nothing to do with filters, heard you've been on the Atkins diet!

Has anyone mentioned snakeoil? I know a good expensive supplier. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Thanks for the info. Ive got the same engines and last time out, I could only get 15Kts! I had 24 in January this year. Particularly worrying since Im about to go on Admiral Wiggos Summer Cruise - I wont be able to keep up!
Whats the name of the motor factor you used?

When you change the filter elements it is important to replace the O ring seals as well. I f you do not, there is a good chnce that you will draw in a little air when the engine in running , as the filters are on the suction side of the lift pump. Needless to say, any air getting in will reduce max rpm in a similar way to a partially blocked filter.
