A 'like' option

It serves no purpose on a forum for exchanging information. It contributes nothing to a discussion and is open to abuse, like the thread rating stars. Read the thread if it is of interest to you, if not, don't.

Personally speaking, if a topic is of interest to me I would not look at a number of likes as a method of testing a posts veracity. It's pretty obvious when information is wrong because the forum reacts very well at correcting errors.

I have wondered what the wee groups of stars some threads attract are intended to signify, does not seem to be related to the usefulness or accuracy of the thread so what is it for?

It gives some people something to do, the virtual equivalent of knob twiddling, but you can only do it once. A ‘like’ feature usually can be changed after selecting one of the two options e.g. after a major flounce.
