Some of you know Debs is trying to sell her barge. No luck at all up here, so thought of taking it down to the Thames. So first, where is there a marina or mooring. Its been on penton hook, etc., is there anywhere that really should be considered, that we wouldn't, being from up nooorth have thought of. It's 49ft long and 10ft 6 beam 18 tons. Oh and maybe a tempary mooring for the world travel market in november, in docklands for her to entertain her clients!! maybe ladies apparently?? One plan is for a LADIES Night..../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
Or can Byron find room??

Could try Limehouse marina where Limehouse Cut joins the Thames. Also home to the Cruising Club and couple of stations away from Canary Wharf on the docklands light railway as well as the Excel Exhibition Centre.
A lot of canal types pass thru here before hitting the tideway to run up to Teddington. Also only a short hop upriver to St. Kats.

I'm a bit concirned about the barge on the tidal Thames. I mean, I'm more used to 8 tons and 400hp. This is 18 tons and 50 hp. How fast does the tide run. I dont want to go backwards.. Hard to tell what it's speed is on a river, as on the canal, more revs just sends more water backwards and you end up on dry land!!

We quite often get narrow boats moored to the railings at Twickenham for weeks at a time , the tide never seems to bother them . Not that you'd want to do that im just pointing out the tidal thing )

My N.B. is 20 tons and 50 hp, and has no problem on the tideway. Anyway sensible folk go up with the tide so the River does the work for you.

If you want winter moorings BW have a facility at Brentford which is not horrendously expensive. Scenery is improving there as well.

Gallions Reach is a bit further downriver friom Linehouse and although closer to Excel it is at the end of the City Airport runway so noisy aeroplanes etc.
Big difference tho is that Limehouse marina is where Limehouse Cut from Regents Canal and thence Grand Union Canal and also Lee and Stort Navigations come together to join the Thames so there will be narrow boats around and maybe peeps who get to see Debs boat is for sale ............British Waterways now control the place so why not ring em up at Watford and get their info.

How about Chelsea harbour for a couple of weeks during the WTF I am sure she could moor on the pontoon if not on in the marina. they use it for the boatshows?
Just a thought. what about Gallions point marina once again just down from the DLR.

Rob
