Dear Everyone,

The same old hat goes round and round and round. When someone posts a post that has done the rounds then we could all, IHO, relearn the lessons that others taught us before the days of Decca: a novitiate is tomorrows sailor.

Let's not, when a person new to this board and asks a question serious to them and their learning curve, start taking the piss with our responses

The anti-fowling thread is a case in point - It could be a joke post or a foul post - But that's not the point. It's easy to mis-spell. It's easy to hit the 'enter' button just as it's easy to edit a post.

Let's give credence to how we interpret the posts always assuming that they are genuine.

Descartes said "When does the circle become smaller than the point." - In other words, it's up to us who post here often, IMO, to help those who are now just arriving as we were all those years ago.

I'm a wanker, and everyone on Scuttlebutt knows it. BUT if I can help with a post that seems serious, then I'll dive in and give an opinion.

I sincerely hope that you can do the same, and keep on doing the same.

I'm sure no one was being personally rude to Good. Or if they achieved it they didn't mean to. And re your post, Nige, I hardly dare mention this but a novitiate is a trainee nun. A new sailor might be a novice. Sorry. I really didn't mean to write it. My fingers just ran away with me. Or perhaps Ken the Gerund Grinder is haunting me.

Fair point

The former - not the latter Nigel.

Although I think a SoH is required by newcomers as well.

I did post on the antifoul (fowl) posting with a bit of gentle humour (IMHO) but made a sensible point afterward as did Twister Ken.

I agree with whats been said, but I still rather liked the idea of antifowling, perhaps the start of a new product range (careful with that syntax, Eugene). Perhaps something you could paint onto your sprayhood so that dried seagull poo would wipe off easily. Come to think of it, on a recent night sail, a bird, presumably a seagull, flew into the sail and lay stunned for a bit before flying off. Now if only I'd had some of that antifowling spray...
