I had
a delightful start to Friday by finding over the week the birds have used us as a toilet perch - delayed start for scrubbing
a gentle spinny run down past Sandown Bay
no wind or any forecast for any wind south of the Island - France abandoned
a great sail but cold sail in the sun in an unforecast SW back to Poole once we got closer back to land
a great sail but cold beat back back to Southhampton max 12+ knots on the clock with the hull/deck winter seal work passed dry as a bone.
good meal in TAPs at Shamrock but £35 overnight stay - ouch
a drift back to Chi in the Sun with tide

Either I'm getting old, I should have put all three layers of thermals on or it was freezing whenever the sun went in - still nice to hear the gurgle of water and watch the world drift by - onwards to the May BH and maybe I'll get to France if its warmer and more crew turn up.

With a Barracuda you must be careful about the I-o-W. Bob Fisher managed to put the Howards Way Barracuda on Bembridge Ledge and, I believe but may be wrong (might have been a different boat), on the wreck off the Needles!

Keep well offshore!

Bob is somewhat notorious for these and other 'occurances'
This past week was one of those when you could lift the keel and anchor right in close to the southern coast. As it was we confirmed that the depths to the south of Brownsea Island had altered somewhat since my chart of this area was printed in 1991.

Re: Talking of Barracuddas

I know what you mean - going down channel at 14kts took a greeny over bow -swept right through and filled up the cockpit well over a 5' crew members head, the large drains cleared the cockpit in minutes and she retired to the top sea berths down below after that!!

Have spent a lot of time and effort over the last 8 years to fix various weaknesses in the build quality, still a great yacht to sail hence I still have her.
