I've seen this hapen several times at a fuelling station on the Thames. A whole wooden helmshelter blown off once.
Normally do it yourselfers boats often without engine bay fans.
The petrol vapours would spill into bilge and ignited by spark from starter motor.
Simliairly with gas systems leaking.
