Like CE proof/RCD is the be all and end all of everything.

It's sufficient to register your boat in the CI or IoM to be exempt. Whilst this is not as straightforward as the SSR, it's less hard than you may think.
Maybe OTT for an average little cruiser, certainly worthwhile for a bigger/more expensive boat.
