60/40?

Next time I fill up with diesel I'm likely to change the declaration to a 40/60 split.

We're currently sitting down below with the heating on. It's 13°C outside and I shudder to think what the wind chill factor is (yes there's another unseasonably low pressure trundling through).

It's difficult getting a mooring for hire anywhere on the west coast as no one is moving. Torrential rain showers and to top it all, the BBC are blaming the jet stream again.

This is April weather we're getting.

You as the end user can specify any split between 100/0 and 0/100 but you might find that the supplier will only do 100/0 or 60/40, as anything else falls into their 'too difficult tray'.

I guess death from hypothermia will have set in before customs and excise turn up to check the allocation. The average temperature in Scotland for June is around 17 Celsius with the average this year being 12.5 celsius and for Scotland as whole 11.2 celsius (still preliminary). The weather up here is just shit at the moment. My pontoon neighbours, just back from a weeks sail up around Mull, said it was awful, windy, busy in Marinas with sheltering boats and cold. And to make matters worse, northern tourism is increasing because folks want to get away from the heat down south. Nothing wrong with that, except all the facilities are now full of people hiding from the cold and rain. Fàilte gu Alba.

Not much better in Wales, it's blowing a Gale right now after raining most of the day, I'm looking out to sea and it looks horrendous, white horses everywhere, the forecast is not good for the foreseeable

Well, it was ‘effin’ chilly this morning in Fort Augustus, then the sun came out and summer was restored… for an hour or two, now back to decidedly autumnal weather and sitting down below. It was strange seeing all the tourists wandering around in hats gloves and scarves. ITS BL00DY JULY!

Have fun on the west, we’re going east and north for the heat.

Comfortable shorts and tee shirt weather here, I sailed away from the north of Scotland in 2014 and found another island group that was at least 10 degrees warmer - all year round.

Just back from a five week cruise in the Outer Isles. Cold, grey and windy. On one passage of advanced rock dodging, we actually had to stop and anchor temporarily, while a squall of wind and hail and 6°C passed through. Not because we're wimps of course, but because we simply couldn't see where we were going, for the hail. This in the middle of June.
Still, look on the bright side, there was never a midge to be seen.
I see from our last year's log, that in the same length of trip, at the same time of year, our Eber burned 10 litres of Kero. This year, 35 litres. Summer?

When I lived in Shetland new comers would often be asked if they had done a winter yet. One guy replied to the effect:
"Winters are what I expected, its the summers that are really difficult".

I didn't know that the 60/40 wasn't a "benefit" if your boat had a diesel heater. Ie heater fitted, you're eligible to 60/40.

Apparently you do have to keep tabs. Also only valid in UK do technically you shouldn't enter France with a tank of red 60/40?

I remember some press about Belgium kicking off but didn't know until I followed up this thread that there is an onus on the user rather than just autographing the fuel chitty.

Fuel used in private pleasure craft and for private pleasure flying (Excise Notice 554)

When we moved to Shetland in 1978, we were told that it rarely snows in Shetland. In retrospect I think he should have added,"in the summer"

Just back from 2 weeks on West Coast, I agree with the comments above, and both Tobermory and Mallaig rammed. The wood burner has been on the last 2 nights at home! I see AWOL heading west, so the sun should be shing soon:)
I didn't stay long, though. Abandoned boat in Oban (thanks Pat and Ian) and missed out on Wednesday. Back today for Billy's buffet before the RTI on Friday.
