Any dosh going spare?

What is your charity? I need a new ultrasound machine for my breast clinic. As the current one was bought with charitable funds 15 years ago (and maintained out of my own pocket) the NHS wont replace it!!!
All cheques gratefully received. Promise its not for my new headsail..... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your point about needing to spend is well taken. The only way round it is to specifically state that you are building up reserves for a defined purpose or eventuality. Unfortunately to get away with this you need to specify how much and what for!!

Restricted reserves were only £44.5 million...

Restricted reserves were only £44.5 million - less than 10% of the total.

Nice try, but the charity ensures the provision of skills training for the Book Publishing Industry; I'm not sure that even the most ingenious lawyer could twist our charitable purposes enough to justify a donation to your scanner appeal /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It seems appalling that the NHS won't replace equipment originally bought as a result of a charitable appeal. If I recall rightly, most of the hospitals around our way with sophisticated equipment (particularly things like CAT scanners) only have them because of appeal campaigns. Many of these were purchased 10 years or so ago, and I guess there is a timebomb waiting to go off, as these machines come up for replacement.

Good luck with your appeal, btw. I realise you can't make the suggestion yourself, but how about making it the subject of a whip-round on the next Cherbourg trip, in the tradition of the Mrs Mate Coffee Morning Collection last year?
