    Flares

Well, we got here and had to visit the border police, which is close by, on left of the train station. Someone just stamped our passports and job done. No questions or boat inspection.

Vist Ostend and Holland with flares

I am sailing to Ostend this Saturday and then onto Holland. Just realised that my flares are just out of date, 2022. I would chance it, but is there a fine if found?

    Changes at the Deben Bar

The opening is cyclic and continuously moving south as the shingle shifts with wind and tide and then new openings form to the north.

Cheaper alternative to Raymarine S100 wireless AP remote control

I have decided to go all out and purchase the Raymarine S100, which appears to be about £420.00 ish. I recon that it looks better and must be better quality. And as I only need to buy it once, can move it to new boats and sell it easily if needed, it is worth the extravagance. Everything...

Cheaper alternative to Raymarine S100 wireless AP remote control

You can't carry your ST6000 around the boat, you have to stay at the helm, so this gadget controls your ST6000 remotely.

Cheaper alternative to Raymarine S100 wireless AP remote control

Well, this Seymo Nautica remote control seems to be half the price of the Raymarine S100 and it can also be operated from a smart phone app, so I will give it a go. It doesn't look like great quality, but if it works it will do the job. Remote control for Raymarine

What was the boat? My original rigging on a Bene 373 is now 16 years old and I wonder if it needs replacing, according to the 10 year rule. My insurers are not asking for replacement. But I am almost certain that if I ask my local rigging company to inspect it they will suggest its...

    Anger at boats anchoring overnight

I received this from a friend in Wolverstone and I believe it to be genuine. You are still persuing the sport of sailing, even if you drop anchor to wait for daylight, tide etc.

    Rescue off Landguard Point

Wavelength is a Legend 33 from SYH skippered by Peter and Sue. They are on my pontoon and good friends. This was his account of the incident. 35kts of wind, 12ft dinghy, father and son aboard heading out to sea, fast, then they pitchpoled, we immediately turned back to assist. They had no...

    SYH to Holland

I agree about the comfort of seeing the lights at night, which makes navigation easier in some respects and I have sailed many nights, especially on the ARC some years ago, but I will have my wife with me and she is a very nervous sailor, so I am keen to make it as comfortable and short as...
