Where to find a sailing woman?

Seriously...look into sailing courses offered in your area. If you're sufficiently skilled, volunteer as an instructor. Or, volunteer/get involved with a sailing club...even juniors have mothers. I instruct our local Power & Sail Squadron courses and have met many single/"transitional" women...

    Canada-very non boaty

Banff...the town, "once" a jewel in the Canadian Rocky Mountains is a tourist trap, albeit set in magnificent scenery. Its about a 70 minute drive from Calgary. If the terra ferma outdoors (hiking, skiing, biking, etc.) rather than watery pursuits, are of higher priority, there are lots other...

    Canada-very non boaty

Kevin...I live in Calgary, Alberta but was brought up on the British Columbia coast...Gibsons Landing! Western Canada is THE place to seriously consider for relocation. However, a lot will depend (as usual) on the economics of your circumstances. Life on the coast is either benign or expensive...

The end of boating in Britain?

Contrary to some mistaken belief, Canadians sail year 'round on the wet...('scuse me)...West coast and find it delightful...all the way to Alaska if that is your want. Yes, somewhat chilly in the winter but not impossible...no ice in these waters! We are a hearty bunch, apparently unlike some of...

    RYA..but in the USA?

In Canada, in addition to the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron who only give classroom instruction, two bodies grant certification...the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) and IPSA, the International Power and Sail Association. The courses are similar to RYA with various wrinkles and...

    Hot gin and tonic

For "emergency" cooling, use a CO2 fire extinguisher! Ensure that you've got sufficient back-up extinguishers and don't hold to close to the bottle(s)...freezes fast but with practice, really works well to cool things off! Cheers, Richard.
