    Trailers leaf spring corrosion

I have always greased all my trailers and multi leaf springs on my vans with a heavy sticky grease. The failure point is usually a leaf snapping as it cant flex with the other leafs. Jack the trailer up so the springs are hanging and work the grease into the gaps. The theory that grit will grind...

    Lefkes bridge

Strange, we went through on the 14th and 22nd and it was opening on the hour. We had nine boats on a club flot and went through on the hour at 12, 1, 2 and 4. As to it being a ferry I don't know as I have never seen it before. It was a floating pontoon that swung to one side.

    Which AIS engine and plotter?

Its a bit of a pig to get to the back of the radio but thinking about it I suppose I could use the h/h aerial.

    Which AIS engine and plotter?

A quick question for the experts, I have just been given a NASA AIS with no plugs or aerial ,the plugs I can sort but I do not have a small vhf aerial handy. I do have a nice little uhf aerial and mount on the shelf, I know its not perfect but as its not transmitting will it work good enough to...

Lifebuoys - What sort do you carry and have you used an inflating one?

Has anyone ever looked closely at there JonBoy inflatable life ring? I bought one at Sibs, on taking it apart to see how it worked I found that it would never inflate automatically. It is basically a funny shaped life jacket with a auto inflating trigger and a toggle you pull if that doesn't...

Is anyone else here on the Brightlingsea waiting list?

A friend has just come to the top of the waiting list and he was on it for four years, I think that was for a pontoon mooring.

International Woodskin taking an awfully long time to dry

I have just used Woodskin on a cockpit grating, the first two coats I sprayed using 10% no1 thinners due to the awkwardness of the grating, followed by two coats by brush in the high wear area. This was in the garage over new year and I could overcoat in 24 hours. It dries a nice satin finish. I...

    Chelmsford or bust Dinghy Raid

Hi every one I thought I had better chip in here as I have done this trip many times mainly by canoe but sometimes by inflatable. There and back in a day is not really feasible unless you are racing, It is probably best to start from Chelmsford as if there has been any rain in the preceding 24...

where to fish in the blackwater?

As said slightly NW of the baffle, there is a hole in the sea bed that was possibly something to do with the water intakes, that is a good spot. If you hunt around with the echo sounder you should find it as its fairly steep sided. The trick is to anchor on the up tide edge and bounce your bait...

    Antifouling Additives?

I added half a kilo of copper powder to a tin of copper based A/F this year, so far its worked well. Just brown slime that comes of with a brush on a stick. I will see what its like at the end of the season but I have not had to lift and pressure wash so far.

    Ramsgate ...an apology.

Ramsgate has certainly improved since I was last there. Find the village grill in the town, it looks a bit greasy spoon but will do a lovely roast dinner for £6, they are not the fastest of service but it is fresh.

SW Sunk Passage Coordinates Crossing the Thames vs Imray

One question if I may, how did you find that gap. Did you just drive up and down in the hope of finding a hole because looking at the breaking water and sand sticking up I would keep clear or was there other clues to the gut way. I am very pleased you did I just wondered how you found it...
