Looks fantastic and your attention to detail shows - which must have been in the hundreds of hours, surely?
On that front I wonder if you will ever reach the balance point of how much attention to put in at build vs leave stuff to sort out afterwards? As you know from the tender, some people...
Fascinating to catch up as always. I think there must be very few people in the world like JFM who have the technical mind, the time and the money to do a project like this and be generous enough to share their thinking in such detail. I just watched a video of Adrian Newey talking about his new...
Simply marvellous. WIth all that engineering and craftmanship it is very easy to see why big boats cost what they do. SL offering what I would call real value for money.
Often not the case - I cycle a lot and it is very hard to see how good race bikes can justify the £15k they now cost...
Well I haven't been on the forum for years and for some reason took a quick peek, stumbled on this thread and read it all from beginning to end. Many thanks to JFM for all the writing up (I did the same for a new boat I had back in 2007, and it does take time). I seem to learn more about boats...
Agree. I went through in our Moody 44 at 4.17 metres beam (13ft 8 in) about 20 odd years ago. Never even noticed it was tight, possibly because I was more worried by depth under the keel (draft 2.01m) over the sill!
Having owned the Albacore and currently owning the Aero, the Aero is far, far less stable. Form stability is not just about hull shape, but width, length, centre of mass etc.
The essential book for any boat owner from Niger Calder. Excellent condition - basically looks unused.

(Music Magpie is selling this edition on Ebay for £32 in good condition, which seems not much less than new, so thought £20 would be a good price for anyone interested)

I had a MF645 and 2 adults, 3 children slept on board. In terms of space for the length it is unbeatable, but you are right it can slam a bit in rough seas (or at least the solent chop). I suspect it would tackle bigger waves better.
I did offer a trial sail on my RM880, because it was such an unusual boat for the UK, it was in commission and I actually quite enjoyed it even though there was no purchase at the end. I think it is entirely up to the buyer and seller to decide.
I downsized all the way from 44ft to a 20ft trailer sailor. As mentioned by others the trailering bit is not so attractive in reality, but I loved the small size, the ability to get into all harbours at any time and just feeling more in touch with the wind and water. So trailer sailors give you...
