    Tiller Pilot Installation

Please do not try moving the centre of effort forward on the tiller! Firstly it will limit your hard over angles and secondly it will make little difference in reducing the torque applied to the tiller pilot. Get the most powerful unit you can afford and shop around to find the best deal.

    Bembridge

Was in Bembridge last week, what a shambles! The 'new' pontoon was moored three boats deep for most of its length. I was heading for the Marina, then saw the notices that all berths beyond the sign were Private. Since when? So moored alongside three other boats and decided to nip ashore for a...

    Lifting keel banging Seal 28

Sail aboard a Parker 335. Fantastic boat. Might be worth contacting Bill Parker for some advice. He will definitely know the best cure and does plenty of refurbishments on Seals.

    That explains Jetski accidents!

    About 50 knots difference!

    courses

BOSS are the business. Good boats, fantastic tuition. They are there to teach you proper skills and give you plenty of practise. A few schools treat it all like a bit of a charter break, not BOSS. Tons of courses that they can mould to fit your own needs. Cannot praise them enough. Check out...

    Harley Raceboats - Mustang 30

Saw a Mustang 30 practising race skills off calshot yesterday. Looked like a fun fast and responsive boat. It was being crewed by a family and its performance was impressive. Nice red hull as well!!!! You probably wanted a slightly more informed opinion!

    Barge Racing - Tom Cunliffe

Re: I,m racing What would I do? Shout piss off idiot much earlier (and louder) than you actually did! You behaved with courtesy and common sense. Luckily I'm sure, most of the fleet would have shown their appreciation of your actions. There's always the odd w@?ker!

    Barge Racing - Tom Cunliffe

I agree with you. Tom was not stating that a racing yacht has right of way, purely that it would have been much better seamanship for the small vessel to take action on seeing the barge involved in a race. If you go walking in a public park do you walk across a pitch where a game of football is...

    Breathable Kit

I hate foul weather gear. I seem to get just as wet with it on as with it off. I want to sail till x-mas this year so need new breathable kit. My choice to buy (at SBS) would be Musto's HPX offshore stuff. Any advice on what works/value for money/other makes would be appreciated also advice on...

    Confession of a Sad Skipper

Always have a sandwich and a cup of tea at the ready in this situaton. If you're gaining grab said items giving the impression of not even trying and still being Master of tweaking and if losing ground then you can blame it on the 'lunch' break.

Have I gone mad or am I in the wrong?

Re: It\'s very difficult... Steve, Sigma approaching from astern, first motorboat also entering hamble on same course as Sigma and technically should have given way as they were overtaking the Sigma, but as you rightly point out sudden luff directly into path of motorboat not very seamanlike...

Have I gone mad or am I in the wrong?

Cannot agree more. Used to keep boat at Mercury and was going back there for the first time in ages. Get past Hamble Point and things return to some form of sanity and it was good to see yachts under sail being given the right treatment from other craft higher up river.

Have I gone mad or am I in the wrong?

About to enter the channel for the Hamble river, myself and my father were admiring a fully race spec Sigma 38 approaching. Two of the (many) crew were positioned ready to drop the headsail. As the halyard was realeased (as the boat beat to windward) it soon became clear they were going to need...

    Solent Slipways

Used to launch trailor sailor at mercury. the slip way angle is fairly shallow and can be used at most states of the tide. Its also reasonably sheltered from wind and tidal effects which makes life slightly easier.

    YM and UK Marina costs.

I know someone, who will remain nameless, who has been hiding that edition from SWMBO in case she finds out the true cost of 'the floating bit of wood the boat is attached to'.
