Whenever you buy a 2nd hand engine it always comes on a pallet resting on its sump in my experience as well.

I am amazed spares aren’t plentiful in the US. I’ve had trucks in the UK with the 6v71 and 92 and nothing was a problem.

Thankfully everything is mechanical. I strongly suspect something at the gearbox end but some practical/real-life experience could be handy. I’m down on the boat for the moment so will be investigating myself as it can’t be TOO serious.
