B&G T7 Multifunction display cannot find radar after factory reset. Sailing Azores to Norway - would like radar working

Thanks for the feedback Skylark. After scrolling through the menus in the calm of Horta harbour it seems we have solved the riddle. It appears a factory re set defines the MFD as «slave» not «master». On changing the setting to «master» we seem to have contact with radar again. Some stress...

B&G T7 Multifunction display cannot find radar after factory reset. Sailing Azores to Norway - would like radar working

During our passage from Antigua here to Horta in the Azores our B&G MFD type T7 went black. On turning the display on, the B&G logo came up but after that only a black screen. We could however use both the plotter and radar on the Ipad through the GoFree WiFi function. Then I probably did...

Lead in aluminium keel – fill void with oil after repairs?

Thank you for the feedback: some very useful thoughts here. My conclusion for the time being is to do nothing; primum non nocere or whatever the saying is. Again: Thank you!

Lead in aluminium keel – fill void with oil after repairs?

We have an aluminium sailing boat (Koopmans 39) built in the Netherlands 1995 – 1996. Last year we discovered a faulty weld in the bottom of the keel, water slowly dripping from the keel when hauled. The boat has spent the winter in a shed for some major surgery to the keel. On pressure testing...

    PSS prop shaft seal

Pss type shaft seal We have had one of these for 10 years. Changed the rubber seal after 7 years as suggested by manufacture. Never had any problems. Needs burbing if you have been ashore, but not after "drying out" in mud berth. We have "dried out" like this several times in E Frisan islands...

    Best radars ?

Slightly concerned about the modern tendency towards everything on one screen. Our plotter screen (navman, now advansea) went black after one year. Very glad we had Furuno old fashioned radar (mod 1715 if I remember correct) on separate screen. One screen = all eggs in one basket.

Air in diesel supply - for 12 years!

Thank you all for the useful feedback. I had hoped the daytank would have solved the suction problem - obviously not. If the problem persists an electric lift pump might be the way to go. I have agreed to have an engineer look at the installation while here in Florø. If the problem is still...

Air in diesel supply - for 12 years!

After many years of trouble with air in my diesel supply I approach the forum with my frustration. In 2000 we installed a Yanmar 3GM in our Monsun sailing boat (the old Hallberg Rassy 31). With this engine the boat has taken us on many good voyages in northern regions, including two trips to...

Wintering a boat in Norway – Customs Agent and large deposit required

I am sad to report that all Norwegian Customs regions from February 2011 implement new, strict regulations on foreign yachts wintering in Norway. These regulations permit a foreign boat left behind for more than 6 weeks only if prior arrangement is made through an approved Customs Agent. We are...

    Lindesnes/Southern Norway

Suggest you coast- hop, probably sailing late nights/early morning to use offshore breeze and avoid sun generated breezes that can be quite strong. The "dangerous waves" depicted in charts will apply to bad weather from west when meeting east to west currents around the Naze and will usually not...

Wintering a boat in Norway - not all plain sailing

VAT charged for overwintering a boat in Norway While this thread is getting rather old it seems worth while bringing an update. A Swedish couple left their Elan 33 in Mo i Rana winter 2008 - 2009, with no contact with customs. On arrival back to their Swedish home port autumn 2009 they were met...

Wintering a boat in Norway - not all plain sailing

Wintering a boat in Norway - new information There is an addition to Norwegian Customs rules. While the new text seems to have been agreed upon May 2009, I was only recently made aware of it. The body of the text (§ 6-1) is unchanged, ie VAT exemption can be granted for 12 months, but the...

Wintering a boat in Norway - not all plain sailing

thedoc has a good point. I have 3rd hand information on a Swedish yacht that was charged VAT and 2nd hand information on a British (RCC) yacht that was charged VAT spring 2009 (Narvik area?). However when trying to investigate further noone can confirm these incidents. The RCC yacht owner...

Wintering a boat in Norway - not all plain sailing

I would be surprised if VAT refund was given to a privately registered yacht. Regarding wintering a yacht in Sweden this should present no problem as stated above, since Sweden is in the EU. The Cruising Association "Baltic Lay-up Directory" will have detailed information. Hans
