I picked up some good advice from a previous thread of about 5 years ago - I can’t find it now. Use a cleaned out wheely-bin, partly filled with warmish water and with 2 pkts of biotex dissolved into it. Tip in your sail and top up the water to cover it, or better still, weigh it down so that...
I too have a Hummingbird 30; she rests easily against a harbour wall when the tide ebbs. I also have a yacht cradle for winter storage made by Yacht Leg and Cradle Co it is adjustable and has been used by larger yachts than the Hummingbird.
If you have a laptop on board, a USB digital/analog receiver is an option. It takes up less room than a bulky TV set and it certainly picks up radio and TV stations throughout UK and mainland Europe. http://www.terratec.net/en/products/tv/hybrid.html
Additional safety line a must. To get round the single point of failure (bosuns chair) wear your harness and attach the spare line to your harness....should be safer that attaching both lines to the bosuns chair. SWMBO swears by it 'cos she is the one that goes up the mast.

Sperry Topsiders for me - assuming that they still sell 'em. 10 years on and they still have some grip. I'll admit that they are now a wee bit tatty looking with their non-matching replacement laces, but they have an air of gravitas about them. Rather appropriate, given my maturity.

SWMBO and I had a Jaguar 22, which had a lifting coach roof as our first yacht and kept it for 14 years. We had all the benefits of a wee yacht when sailing but we could lift the coach roof up on a pair of swinging arms and secure a canvas skirt with plastic windows round the sides when we were...
Thanks for a informative and much appreciated post. Ignore the Francophobes, Spanish & German - the latter becoming ever more prevelant in Spain - are useful, but French is the language of love.

I understand that she is a variation on the Elizabethan in that she has an extra berth and more headroom. Sailing Today issue 37 had a report on the Elizabethan 30 and the Hummingbird was mentioned as better alternative - if you can find one. BTW, I spotted one in S spain for sale at about the...
Ref Disposable Nappies. Had a colleague filled the bilge with disp nappies but made the mistake of packing them in tight under one location. They expanded and - being biodegradable - they came apart when he tried to pull/drag them out at beginning of next season. He was not a happy bunny.

You may wish to have a look at the article on Page 110 of Sailing Today of May 2001 which gives a detailed description of how to make your own cover. The example gives all the info you need and gives costs for a 35 footer. Good luck!

I may have this wrong - I'm sure that someone will correct me if I have - I believe that the vivacity/alacrity/jaguar 22 are similar yachts. For 12 years I owned a Jag22 with lifting keel, lifting coach roof, basic diaphragm-type sea toilet and sliding galley for It was my first yacht and it was...
