Thanks to you all for taking the time to provide the excellent information received in this thread. Sadly, I dont have any time for a week to go to the boat and put your fault finding suggestions into practice, but, as soon as I do get to inspect the unit, I will post my findings here.
42ft boat for less than £3k per year at Hayling Yacht company. But, if you cant put up with the low bridge at Swanwick, I doubt you'll put up with the tidal restrictions or the mud berthing on Hayling Island. However, our Princess 41 is not unhappy with lying in the mud for 16 hours a day and...
Thanks Gentlemen,
There is no other filter in the line from the tank and so it must be almalgamated into the fuel pump as you suggest. The heater is a lot older than the fuel tanks and may well have been bunged up years ago as I have never inspected it before.
Would you recommend that I fit an...
I think you need to look at this very recent thread in order to get lots of various answers. You're going to need a bit of reading time though as it was hotly contested.

Hi ARA,
Yes, I should have mentioned that we were on shore Power with our trusty Sterling 30amp charger supplimenting any loss from the batteries. The volt and Amp meters were showing "normal" conditions. I have assumed the glow plug was not to blame as the heater failed whilst in use and not at...
Thanks for that.
Presumably its somewhere in the fuel line from the main starboard tank. I am a little worried as I had new fuel tanks fitted and so was not expecting there to be too much "carp" in them to block any filters yet. The fuel pump is clicking as it always did when it was working.
I managed to convince Honey Bunch that a weekend on the boat (admittedly staying on the mooring) may be a pleasant change. We settled down watching the TV with a glass of wine with the heater on. After it had been on for an hour the little 2kw (very old) Eberspacher air heater just turned...
Thats great. I had to remove one of the arms to cure a leak around the shaft last week and it really is a horrible, loose, fit that has now damaged the splines where the 2 screws pinch the shaft.
I will try the ASAP product.
Worry not Birchwood, hlb is a prophet of doom on boat sales, recently suggesting that VolvoPaul and I were looking for a "mug" to sell our (over 40ft) boats too.
Sad to say though, he could be right as neither of us have had a sale to date. However, I prefer to think positively hoping that there...
The problem (as a seller) is that you still have the upkeep bills for a boat even if you do not want a boat. I have had a similar offer for my boat (numbers a lot less though) but it would mean having all the marina bills, although slightly less, and still having to try to sell yet another boat.
Yes fortunately, (if the word fortunately can be used in such a sorry saga) this did all occur whilst tied to the dock. Incidentaly, I have cured the leak around the wiper motor shaft but have yet to buy a new filter and even begin to find the fiddly little parts from the morse linkage plate...
How about a completed bill of sale for our boat? A piece of paper doesn't cost much.
Then maybe we can buy that Skilso 975 that we've promised ourselves. That does cost a tad more than £100 though.
I decided to cure a leak around one of the windscreen wipers that has been weeping for ever. As the engines had not been run for a week or two I started them both up to run whilst doing the wiper. After a few minutes I put them in gear and I found that the port engine would not engage reverse...
Fantastic pics David. We had visitors, so had to miss another weekend when we could have been winter boating in Chichester harbour.. That is, if I hadn't managed to create 3 new faults on our boat whilst rectifiing 1.
