New Year on the boat down in London: great experience. You can get some great day's cruising when its bright and sunny. I've also been up on the bridge, well wrapped in scarf and sweater, with my father, when a sudden snowstorm hit and we could not see the bow.

Norman 20 does not have standing headroom anywhere in the cabin, the Freeman does. May be a consideration. I owned a Conquest for a few years and she was fine on the canals and non tidal rivers. The Tideway was OK too with some planning but would have been uncertain about the open sea, even with...
I have been on the Tideway in a small boat with no VHF. It was OK to contact the Limehouse lock keeper but not much help for anything else. I have spoken to London VTS by mobile a couple of times but both of those were for issues that did not really need to be broadcast.

I find it works very well, but you need to use a lot more than you think you did. I apply enough to leave a meniscus over the area, let that soak in and repeat the process several times until no more will go in. It's fairly permanent but can fail if stressed. This is currently an issue with an...
This is the 5HP engine that is the power source to my father in law's 3kva generator he wants me to fix. Most of it is pretty simple but I'll bounce a couple of questions off the collective wisdom here, before I (I hope) give the thing back on Sunday so he can use it camping.

I have never bpthered with an FOI question before but that does nearly beg one, although I suspect that the likely dodgy reasons about authority figures being non PC will probably have been redacted into something wooly about costs:-)

They are also easy to steer (well mine is)

Compared to what? A supertanker I guess:-) To be fair I've steered such things for years, but a wheel steered command bridge twin screw cruiser is easier.
We were supposed to have a thruster to play with but a previous crew burned out the motor.
Clearly the actual keeper needs some form of distinguishing feature or clothing. Might I tentatively suggest that he is issued a smart blazer or uniform jacket with some decent brass buttons and a peaked cap with a white top so that he stands out...:-)
You may have broken a wasp. This releases a pheromone that causes any wasp in the area to get very angry indeed and look for things that are not other wasps in order to sting them. Its a hive defence mechanism that can have painful results. Been there etc.
If we can eliminate smallpox why not...
