    Caribbean Hurricane Season

Well the name of the bay is still Spanish Water... Having lived here (Curacao) for close to 6 months now, I can say Curacao Marina is doing it's best to accommodate yachts in the hurricane season, but their means are limited. I was impressed by the sanitary facilities. Very clean. The marina is...

    Amsterdam to Vlissingen

Next week or so the bridge at Middelburg will be quite restricted. No openings during office hours due to painting. One opening during lunch time.

    Those crazy Dutch

That thing has been sitting in our town for quite some time now. It took me a while to understand what it was all about. But it's driven by a group of religious people. Large donations have funded it. They organize tours with some "biblical" stories incorporated in the tour. Never felt the need...

    VP 2030, life expectancy

I've heard people getting 3000 hours and people getting 8000 hours from it. Like others say. Treat it well and it will tread you well. Do make sure the ambient temperature of the engine compartment is not too high when running the engine for long periods. So ventilation is important. Make sure...

    Satphone email and weather.

We recently went through the same process and ended up with a Iridium GO solution. It works in conjunction with a smartphone or tablet. The device is about 1000 Euro and the subscription has several varieties. We got for our trip a 4 month unlimited data version for 150 Eur per month. Mind you...

    Sailing and cats...

Our cats are kept in house when not sailing as we live in the inner town (too much traffic). That probably helps keeping them on our boat as well. We've had little problems with our cats, only one that is a bit susceptible to seasickness. Most of the time they seem happy to be on-board and...

    Leroy Somers Anchor Windlass

If it's anything like the Lewmar series then you need some silly expensive accessory to make that happen. Ask me how I know :(

    Advice/Experience of Inboard Autopilot

Personally, I'm not a big fan of linear drives. From ruggedness point of view the rotational movement is to be preferred. Having said this I've heard very positive things about the model in the link below. They connect to most electronic boxes...

    Volvo Folding Prop Hub

Not sure what you mean exactly. For the saildrive version of the hub the inner part (that slides over the spline) is made of stainless steel. Between the inner and the outer hub there is a rubber bushing, acting as electrical insulator and shockload damper. Hope that helps.

    calling ZYGRIB mac users

Have used it quite a bit I would say it works fine, no issue. Agree the program has a bit of funny user interface for Mac users. I don't see you using it in combination with a Satphone unless you extensively reconfigure your Mac. Point being that as soon as your Mac "sees" an internet...

ACR PLB which one to buy?

Given the fact I just bought a new Ocean Signal EPIRB for 549 Euro (= 425 GBP) it appears you can buy a PLB for 25 Pounds.
