Volvo Folding Prop Hub

I asked this question in another thread and feel it might have got lost. Does anybody know what material the inner hub of a Volvo folding three blade prop is made from?

It's obviously not brass/bronze as it is silvery in colour; I thought it was some sort of alloy but my son thinks it may be steel.

Not sure what you mean exactly. For the saildrive version of the hub the inner part (that slides over the spline) is made of stainless steel. Between the inner and the outer hub there is a rubber bushing, acting as electrical insulator and shockload damper.

Thanks Aluijten, it is the inner part that slides over the splines that I was querying. I just want to be sure that if I try one of the various suggestions for cleaning prop blades, I am not going to dissolve it!

It is undoubtedly some sort of alloy, so you're both right.
Before you do anything with that information, please ensure you know the difference between "alloy" and "ally", the latter being a colloquial expression for aluminium, alloyed or otherwise.
