Hi, i am looking at replacing the mast, and have recieved a quote from Z Spars, very quick reply and an ok price, as its about 10 grand, i wondered if anyone has dealt with them before and what experiance they had. Your experiances and advice appreciated.

On a much smaller scale than your job, I had some mast spreaders made by them (per my sketch). The price was very reasonable and the service good.

My boat has Z-spars mast/boom as standard rig. Had a couple of contacts with them for spare parts and they have been superb and well priced.

Hi Paul

Z Spars have been around for some time and are a well know reputable supplier of masts /booms etc, so I would be very surprise if you have any problems.
I have also dealt with http://www.sailspar.co.uk/ ,I assume you have also obtained a quote from them as they have also given me good service.

Mike

Z Spars are good "budget" quality and reasonably priced. They are used on quite a few new boats so the builders rate them.

I've also dealt with Z-Spars but in a smaller way - very helpful indeed. Got a replacement spring for a kicker and let me go through their stock until I found a suitable one. Also bought a secondhand boom from them cheap and they supplied a 'kit' for me to finish it, all at a reasonable price.

I have worked for both companies. Sailspar sometimes use the Z Spar section so the sections will probably be the same. Z Spars can supply sections in one length although I guess if this is going to Greece it will be supplied in two parts. Sailspar use to offer external tangs as the prefered rigging attachment point, Z Spars offer this as an extra. In my opinion if you can afford to go for tangs this is the best option, through bolted with compresion tube so all the loads are not taken on the mast wall, also in years to come when you want to change the standing rigging any rigger in the world can supply a swaged eye, this is not always the case with a stemball swage. The two companies are very similar, both offer good service.
Eurospars in Plymouth would also give you a quote although it may be more then the above companies.
Hope this helps.

They are indeed 'switched on' and prompt with good back up ( spares). IME.

Selden -possibly-has better annodising and other stuff details but that comes with a significant cost add on. I doubt you would perceive any difference before 20 years have passed...IMO

I had a new mast and boom for my Seawolf 26 from them last year. I was happy with the communication, service and the final product. There was a slight hiccup with delivery probably due to an interrupted message on my phone (I didn't know the mast was being delivered until it arrived at the club and the driver couldn't gain access). They didn't fit a halyard diverter for my roller furling and they don't even supply them. They recommended I got one from Selden and fit it myself. Also it would have been useful if they had supplied a simple instruction sheet since I was fitting the mast myself.

Overall though, they were very good and the price was reasonable. I ordered from them directly. In retrospect, I should have ordered through an agent/rigger as I understand that the price would have been the same but the rigger would have fitted it for me.

I replaced my Sparlite Boom in 1995 with a Z-spars boom - Service was good then and the boom is still as good as it was then....Would certainly buy from them again.

Thank you everyone for your replys, i have been impressed by Z Spars, their communication has been very good, and from the replys it looks like their after sales is good as well. I am looking at a mast and boom, with fully battened main and batten car system, stack pack, and all ancillarys pre fitted, so it will hopefully be a case of fit and tune. The prices quoted here have been ridiculous, i was quoted more for a track and batten car system, than i have been quoted for a mast and boom complete. Its a crazy world when its far cheaper to buy in the UK and have it transported here at half the cost of buying here. Thankyou once again for all the replys. Will let you konw how i get on.

Don't forget the springvang too, whilst they're building it all for you! Better sail shape, no messing with topping lift.

Hi Mike, awaiting reply from them, Z spars price included transport to Greece, and their reply was very quick, Selden Greece gave a quick reply, but i would need to win the lottery to afford one.
In Greece, I'd suggest you get a price from Z-Diffusion in Perigny - the parent co of Z-Spars UK. Don't have the tel# to hand immediately.
They provided me with a 13.8m mast complete with spreaders and all standing rigging for €2800.
Z-Spars in UK were quoting £2000 for transport alone to Spain.
Loic Gilbert is the MD/owner.

In the past I've always been very satisfied with product quality, servic and prices from both UK and French parent.

I had to have a new boom made in France a few years ago after the original one broke. The price was very reasonable and the service excellent. I can't remember the name of the firm but they were located in Brest. If the OP wants to get a quote I can probably find the contact details.
