Your thoughts on easy revving engine..

Worth noting that in general if you're playing with props, it's a good policy to only change one thing at a time-eg ally to one particular brand of stainless, changing pitch, changing diameter OR changing number of blades. Changing multiples just makes it hard work and you just erase your benchmarks.

Yes, I agree.. I took a gamble on changing the pitch and number of blades..

At least now I have a baseline with the 19" 4 blade.. Will now go to 17" 4 blade (one change) which is the same as the original pitch but with the extra blade (assuming the original prop wasn't re-pitched at any point in it's life)..

I want to stay with 4 blade to improve the bite on the water..

Did you try running the boat with least possible load and the 19"?

If you leave crew and dead weight behind you might hit the proper load for the 19" and get an indication of rpm/speed at WOT. If nothing else it will provide knowledge.

We ran with about half fuel and water, three people on board and a bit of gear.. Considering the boat can take up to 7 people all in all it was about half loaded.. So fully loaded it wouldn't have stood a chance.. :)

Which is why I recommended testing with your normal load. A test run in light laden condition would give an indication of how close 19" would be to perfect. If you leave 300-400 kg behind and it still won't perform, a 17" fourblade may still be too much with normal load..

Oh, I see what you are saying.. No, I didn't check with a light load.. I have already removed the 19" and put back the original prop..

Switched the prop today to a Solas Rubex 4 blade 17" pitch..

Its perfect!!

Putting down the throttle the revs climb to about 3200rpm and it pulls up onto a plane quite nicely.. Then accelerates through to about 4200rpm.. The trimming it out I got to about 35-36kn at around 4500 rpm.. Can easily stay on a plane at about 3200rpm.. Was running just over half fuel and full water with 2 people on board and quite a lot of gear..

Thanks to everyone for the input and thoughts helping to get this right.. Can't wait to take her out again now.. :)

Very nice. We all love her best when she behave :)

Considering the initial quest and possible horrors I think it is fair to say it went well.
