Ho hum; I'm obviously further down the food chain than most of you guys. In terms of what I could afford to run, and what would meet my needs (wife, young kids, UK waters) it would be an Aquador 26 HT.

Crawled over the boat at SIBS and loved it.

Guesss you know I'm gonna suggest a 'Gusta 72.
Good for 40knts
Three cabs + crew
Stunning looks
Range 300+
Garage etc..

If you want even faster & bigger then the 80' with the new MTU 2000 series engines....

Dave, the Skagen looks quite interesting. Seen the website Skagen 50 and there are some impressive photos of the boat at sea but it looks a bit plain on the inside bordering on the naff. Do you know anything more about these boats?

Yes, I was wondering about that too. Surely a Sunseeker Yachty thingy is somebody's wet dream
Maybe its a case of familiarity breeding contempt or maybe the Brits are genuinely not giving us what we think we want. On the other hand, we all dream about Bugattis and Bentleys but actually buy Mondeos

Hi Mike - I guess you know as much as I do. I know what I have researched from the net, because when I first saw it, I thought "that presses my buttons"! It does have some really well thought out exterior bits - even below where they have built in propellor protection against grounding. The boat has an appeal to me because of its looks and sea-keeping. Its a baby ship basically. As to the interior, I'm minimalist at home (and so is SWMBO) and I don't go big licks on Cherry wood (but I do like exterior teak) and the like, so it doesn't really concern me.

What does concern me is spending vast sums on modern cruisers that don't seem that well screwed together, and they don't perform like they're well screwed together when out in the rough stuff.

I love the looks of it and that fly is just mega! Fancy being able to dump your tender on it and have full social seating as well as the helm. It all just fits and thats because it has been designed properly.

Normal caveats apply: All IMHO and Beauty is in the eye of the beholder /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes, they cost an arm and a leg:
€700.000 ex Vat without any extras - and everything is extra...
Same price as an Azimut 50 really - only that has far larger engines and comes with a lot of gear as standard (compared to skagen at least).

Sounds like you'd be needing a Royal Denship 82 Open then!

Surprising considering they're made in Slovenia as far as I know. Compared to a 52ft Grand Banks or the Fleming 55 though, thats still cheap. I suspect the other 2 are north of €1million

Yup, it looks like it could go places when the glitzier stuff is left in the harbour but I'd still want a bit more inspired styling inside at least. Also looks like there are few too many exposed self tappers around for my taste
On balance I'd still go for the Fleming 55 but I guess it's more dosh

Yup, Botnia Targa for me as well. Ideal boat must be Targa 30 or above as SWMBO and family will not take to the outside loo.

However, just checked my wallet and 27.1 looks more likely.

pete - I guess because this thread is really about 'no compromise' boats.

In practice we all have to compromise in some way and the big 4 have all, at times in their production anyway, produced great compromise boats fitting a lot into short hulls, looks but handles a chop, performance (speed) but handles a chop, space but berths etc etc
In general on this thread the split seems to be between really great form and absolute function.

Re: Azimut 68s

Yes but I thought it worked, the boat wasn't new it belonged to an owner and was being used by Azi for the show, it certainly was wearing well. With the wenge you don't have to worry about leaving finger prints on the polished wood. Very personal taste though but I thought it worked, it might not age well though!!!
