Kinda prompted by people getting unleashed from bat bug and getting ready to Sally forth again.

I've been lucky enough to sail around a lot of the U.K. Coast but my bias will always be in and around the Solent. Since I was a kid visiting Southampton, for me, yachting and Cowes were the height of my ambition.

So for me, Cowes gets it. Centre of yachting! From the Cowes week buzz, round the island races, sailing across on a Wednesday afternoon for a couple of beers, it's got the lot.

How about you?

Your fishing for peoples security question answers that you sell onto the criminals in Gib, aren’t you? Facebook warned me about people like you.

Puilladobhrain Anchorage, damn it, see what you made me do, compromise myself.

The problem with "Favourite destination" is that the good places are everyone else's favourite destination which makes them less desirable. I'd go for Newtown Creek (but midweek and out of peak season). Tranquility, nice walks, and what more could you ask for from a pub (although I haven't been to the new inn since they closed and reopened) beyond good food, good beer, a nice dinghy ride and walk to get to and tidal height calculations before booking a table?

Falmouth to Hugh Town, IoS. Then potter around the islands engaging in rock-dodging, white-sand strolls, and wild-life watching on the outer crags...
and if the weather is rubbish, sailing around the Fal sound (and maybe up the Helford) is always a great thing, with seemingly endless options for walks around coastal paths, and wooded coves.

Leaving aside my own East Coast places, I think the place that sticks in my mind most is Fowey. I have spent many memorable evenings there on a mooring with the setting sun showing it up with Polruan nearby. There are lovely walks around as well as good shops and pubs, and the possibility of a day out to the Eden Project or Mevagissey. The Isles of Scilly deserve an honourable mention too.

1. Wells Next the Sea.
2. Dartmouth
3. Walton Backwaters

The Solent, for me, is a bit like London... nice to visit, but I wouldn’t want to be there full time, (despite growing up at Hardway).

Love the West Country and the Channel Islands (though not so much Jersey - don't know why).
Jersey has an excellent bus service, which makes it a good base for a few days or more. I have found the harbour staff helpful too, especially when I needed to dry out on two occasions.

Worbarrow Bay and Chapman's Pool. Mainly because conditions are not often right and so few people go there. However for regular easy access Newtown takes a lot of beating.

I do most of my recreational sailing on the south coast and tend to favour going as far west as possible (Isles of Scilly should be on everyone's sailing bucket list ).

I have to say though, when given the chance to deliver a yacht to West Scotland, especially around Oban and beyond, I jump at it! Such a beautiful part of the UK.

As a twelve year old, I had no concept of Cowes anti snobbery thing. All I saw was this great 'yachting' thing. The day came, eventually, I was skippering a boat into Cowes and achieving a long held ambition. As was skippering yachts during Cowes week. Awesome.

Not the Uk, but it has to be Ostend every time. I often stopped for several weeks at a time when covid permitted.
Handy as a stopping off place for the Dutch canals which has to be on anyone's list.
Then St Peter Port,
Closer to the UK, for a simple weekend hop from Dover---Boulogne & Dieppe
At home- Ramsgate, but most places on the east coast are worth a visit.
But in all fairness, my home- The River Blackwater- is a place I love. Returning after a long cruise always has its attractions. It is a pity that Bradwell power station has been de-commissioned because, at night, once one saw the gloom of the lights on the horion one knew one was on the last leg after a long cruise.
