YM very mixed up this month

I went into WH Smith in Milton Keynes last Saturday to catch up on my magazine library reading while SWMBO was spending all my mone,y but there was no sign of YM on the shelves. They had loads of other boaty mags but no YM. What's the world coming to? I blame Tony Bliar

Good God!! I also remember being crammed, with about 20 others, into the tiny sitting room of the only people for miles with a television, to watch the Coronation! An enormous wooden tv set with this miniscule screen and an horrendous picture. As a child, at least we were shoved right to the front, having been strictly instructed 'to go to the toilet' before the prog started, so we didn't have to disturb anyone during the epic! But we talked about it for weeks!

It was years before we had our own set. Parents just couldn't afford it, so we 'went out to play', roaming through the local woods all day, jumping into streams, making bows and arrows etc. Pity today's youngsters don't get the same chances.

Built a radio controlled model RAF crash rescue tender in my early teens, it was powered by a small diesel and was so fast that the radio control rudder mechanism wasn't quick enough to steer it accurately and it kept running aground.

Mark you, it gave the ducks on Wimbledon pond one hell of a workout. I've still got it somewhere & I suppose if I launched it off Gosport I could get QHM fairly worked up about unguided missiles aimed at our remaining warships. Tempting but perhaps not.

In this month's editorial it's mentioned that we all dream of bluewater crusing. Not according to Mr Average with his 30' boat. Very, very few of us actually go bluewater crusing and I wonder if we are really honest how many of us actually want to do it.

I've been eyeing up the RC yachts for a while but always wondered what to do when the batteries fail.. Maybe only sail with an onshore breeze?

From what I gather you always sail on a lake. That way it should always end up on a shore.

Thats very good Fergie - I think he has a dah where there should have been a dih but it seems to fit.
