YM very mixed up this month

I went into WH Smith in Milton Keynes last Saturday to catch up on my magazine library reading while SWMBO was spending all my mone,y but there was no sign of YM on the shelves. They had loads of other boaty mags but no YM. What's the world coming to? I blame Tony Bliar

The main problem I find is that my appetite for new toys still seems to outstrip my wallet.

Re: The good old days (not)

Hi boatmike!!

Good God!! I also remember being crammed, with about 20 others, into the tiny sitting room of the only people for miles with a television, to watch the Coronation! An enormous wooden tv set with this miniscule screen and an horrendous picture. As a child, at least we were shoved right to the front, having been strictly instructed 'to go to the toilet' before the prog started, so we didn't have to disturb anyone during the epic! But we talked about it for weeks!

It was years before we had our own set. Parents just couldn't afford it, so we 'went out to play', roaming through the local woods all day, jumping into streams, making bows and arrows etc. Pity today's youngsters don't get the same chances.

Cheers jerry

Built a radio controlled model RAF crash rescue tender in my early teens, it was powered by a small diesel and was so fast that the radio control rudder mechanism wasn't quick enough to steer it accurately and it kept running aground.

Mark you, it gave the ducks on Wimbledon pond one hell of a workout. I've still got it somewhere & I suppose if I launched it off Gosport I could get QHM fairly worked up about unguided missiles aimed at our remaining warships. Tempting but perhaps not.

Old enough to remember when the first remote controls came out...

..they were joined to the telly via a long wire....

Donald
Hopefully boatless by the end of the week.........

In this month's editorial it's mentioned that we all dream of bluewater crusing. Not according to Mr Average with his 30' boat. Very, very few of us actually go bluewater crusing and I wonder if we are really honest how many of us actually want to do it.

Oh No! Not Dick Barton,

Paul Temple, Vic Oliver, the McFlannels, Uncle Mac, Kathleen Garscadden ............. This has got to stop!

Anyone remember this tune?
Dah, di-dah
Dah di-dah di-dah
Dah di-dah di-dah di-dah di-daaaah
Di-dah di-dah etc etc

I've been eyeing up the RC yachts for a while but always wondered what to do when the batteries fail.. Maybe only sail with an onshore breeze?

From what I gather you always sail on a lake. That way it should always end up on a shore.

The boats are raced to International Yacht Racing Rules. This is from The YBW Site

Radio yacht sailing is organised along similar lines to full sized yacht racing using the international racing rules. However, be warned model yachting is as seductive as its full-size counterpart, highly addictive and will really put your skills as a full size skipper to the test. Many races are conducted in one day and as a skipper you stay safe, warm and dry, thus making this an ideal sport for all members of the family.

You can also Look at the RYA site for info.
It seems that Model Yacht Racers are as Mad as us.

Re: Oh No! Not Dick Barton,

Thats very good Fergie - I think he has a dah where there should have been a dih but it seems to fit.
So Telstar by the Tornados
Seem to think that was 1961
Venus in Blue Jeans was around at the same time.

Any Train Spotters in the House?

Nup. Paul Temple theme tune. I believe it had some sort of railway theme like the Flying Scotsman or suchlike - this is not yet another boring allusion to Mr McHurley22. I'd just like to make that very clear.
