First of all turn it over manually with the decompressor lever raised to check that it is not seized. Worth removing the air filter and squirting in oil at the same time. Check there is fuel getting to the injector by slackening off the nut while turning the engine over. The click when pressing the starter is either a poor battery or poor electrical connections or both.

These are very simple engines. Assuming everything is OK internally (no stuck valves or seized rings that might reduce compression) all they need is fuel to the injector and a good strong kick from the starter. Sometimes turning over on the starter with the decompression lever raised to get it spinning and dropping the lever helps that initial kick.

my engine has alternator at the bottom left and the starter motor behind on right with some kind of huge 60 millimetre nut for a big pulley on the front but it does say yanmar on the badge and is the same size

HiGateway.
It may never have sunk, BUT it has had a lot of water in the bilge and battery box.
When you have identified the engine , download a manual. A Yanmar 1gm 10 is a single cylinder engine. Yours is a twin.
RE; Engine.
1. Battery, You will get nowhere with old dead batteries. So, scrounge up a decent fully charged battery.
2. Fuel. You will get nowhere with old contaminated fuel. Odds are that the fuel is old and contaminated (moisture) and the fuel filters will be clogged.
Drain the fuel tank. Clean it out if there is an inspection hatch. If not remove the tank a flush it.
Add a few liters of new clean fuel.
Remove the fuel line at the first filter you come to . Open the cock at the bottom of the tank an flush fuel out.
Open filter clean in side filter bowl and fit new filter. flush the fuel line all the way to the injector pump.
See your manual for details of you fuel system and how to bleed it.

By the look of the rust on the engine, it will need to be removed and worked on / cleaned on a bench to do the job properly and to end up with something reliable.
