That is only true of the smaller engines (including this one). The bigger MOBO engines are marinised automotive engines, usually Toyota.

I think that's Kubota.

They well be - I don't know, but the big engines are not their's - although knowing the incestuous nature of the Japanese engine business, the Toyotas could be Yamahas and so on!

I thought the 1GM10 was Kubota based, like the Beta 10hp.

No. as said, all smal Yanmars are purpose built marine engines. The 1GM is a 30+ year old design. For many, that is their attraction.
