Unless it gets them off benifits..

Personal Independence Payments are given to help disabled folk live a more normal life - this may even enable some injured folk to return to work. Clearly the poor lady was not that lucky though i am not sure why her husband lost his job or had to give it up (perhaps he is needed in a carer role).

When my sons spine was smashed 9 years ago he got F all compensation but PIP enabled him to buy undr finance a big auto car with medically necessary soft suspension, and this has now enabled him to set up as a high spec plumber 3 days a week. Although he would rather have his health and mobility restored, the blue badge also comes handy in enabling him to park near clients to minimise equipment moving effort. Dont begrudge benefits to the disabled just because a small proportion may be claiming unnecessarily, and even those are probably economically useless

Of course it does good. But, one of the problems of any scheme is needs to be made relatively accessable, which, in turn, enables the less genuine to scam it. Just look at the recent case where a gang hoisted 55m....

Compared with UK MOD spending £3 billion on an armoured car it cant use and their similar purchasing fiascos £55 million is chicken feed - indeed our local council spent £25 million remodelling a roundabout for dubious reasons

Slight difference between scamming and contracts being handed out for bad ideas.. Just think of all the military expenditure to fight 'the last war'

Agreed, and clearly bulk scammers should be imprisoned for serious terms, rather than merely being audited for poor choices like hapless MOD buyers. However ultimately if there is no other consideration "Its the money stupid" and if low level fraud has minimal impact a cash strapped government might want to plug bigger holes.

It could be worse, another council spent £5m replacing two roundabouts with pictures of leaves. The former zebra crossings are now also art installations with no reference to Highway Code rules or laws.

I suppose as it’s not their money and the responsibility is spread they sleep soundly at night!
