I am interested in having a 38' GRP yacht resprayed, would any forumites have experience and recommendations, ideally I would like the work carried out between Southampton and Chichester inc. IOW

No personal experience yet, but I've heard good things about Desty's at Hamble Point. Probably not the cheapest though!

With Awlgrip G-Line hopefully i see that superb product is no longer available.

I would strongly question Acrylic, my transom & cove strake were done with this type of material, due to the fact they could buff any particles from it.
That paint is very soft & no where as good as the fantastic G-Line.

If you're ringing round for quotes and would consider as far East as Newhaven, Cantells Boatyard may be worth a try. I saw a Trawler Yacht I think they're called which was sprayed from a sort of coffee colour hull to dark blue and was most impressed with the transformation, a very competent job and a delighted owner.

Had mine done by HYC. The osmosis treatment was OK but the paint job wasn't. The paint's bubbled up and lifted from the GRP. It was Awlgrip too.... An expensive farce of a mistake.
 
Without wishing to hijack the thread, what should I expect to pay for painting the topsides on a 10 metre/33' yacht. I've had a quote of 5250 Euros which strikes me as nuts but I don't know the going rate
 
have used jutons hard top A/S, 2pk polyurthan paint with very good results.
no flaking or pealing been on 4yrs now with out any problems.
around £100 for 5liters..
 
Having sprayed several boats up to 32ft (with success) i am no expert but would make the following observations. 2 pack Poly paints vary in quality & ease of application, I found 709 prone to orange peel and blakes too soft. Epifanes was the best & gave a superb long lasting finish.
I havent used awlgrip though it has a good reputation.
The difference between 2 pack polyurethanes & 2 pack acrylics is that the acrylics are softer probably as intended for car trade use where buffing & blending in is normal.
If you are spraying poly it goes on thin & you have to wait for it to kick of for longer before applying another coat whereas acrylic kicks of far faster & can be overcoated quicker.
Whatever paint its a very unhealthy game & understandably expensive!

That is an acceptable/slightly high price if it is an established yard with the right facilities and reputation. In my experience the price goes down the further away you are from the Solent. You would need to see some of their work.

You need to be happy with the system to be used - see comments above. It needs to cover everything, hoisting, chocking, storage, movement into shed/cover, preparation, graphics, relaunch etc.

No hoisting, chocking, storage, movement into shed/cover, graphics or relaunch as it would already be out getting antifouled etc., and it's plain white awlgrip.

Still acceptable?

Not easy to comment as most of the cost is labour, so much will depend on how bad the current surface is and therefore how much labour is involved in preparation. Only way to find out is to seek alternate quotes.
