Yacht sail number Identification

Can a yacht be identified by her sail number??

A friend in Scotland recently took a picture of a 'sloop rigged' cruising yacht with the sail number 797C, and of interest would liked to know her name.

Provided that the sails belong to that yacht.
My boat had the wrong sail numbers on when I got her and now have a sail from an entirely different boat.

i recon its an RYA "cruising " No

No. CYCA number for the Clyde.... hence the 'C'.
