Apologies for length of post
Our boat was lifted by Kingston marine services for annual maintenance 3-6-2019, we have used this yard for a number of years, the last couple of times pry to this lift, the operator on the power washer had caused damage to the side decals vinyl stripping , to the extent that it had ended up looking well patched, we had all the stripping removed ,purchased new from the original supplier and had them installed by a local firm, all at our expense, before the lift out in 3-6-2019 ,we wrote to Kingston boat yard instructing them not to power wash the sides of our boat, which they duly noted on there job sheet,
The day of lift out ,we reminded the Forman not to clean sides of boat, who informed the operator, half way through the job kingstons employer informed us that he had forgot to not go up the sides and had blasted off a large section of stripping, as we were standing watching with the Forman , there was no question what had been done,
When they went to re lift the boat after it had been ashore, the lift operator informed me and the Forman he was unable to lift as the blocks the boat was sitting on were in the way of placing the slings in the marked lifting position ( Kingston had renewed the lifting point stickers previously) they then informed me that having checked where they had previously placed the slings, it had crushed the side vents causing them to crack, they managed to lift the boat back into the water after having to lift and reposition blocks,
We reported the incident to kingstons manager, who replied that he would have to speak to his Forman to confirm our complaint
We wrote to Kingston B/y and requested there insurance details, but they were unwilling to supply them, they did offer to give me a free lift , but as they refused to pay for the repairs we declined there offer and on the 10-10-2019 notified Y insurance , and we preceded to make a formal claim supplying copy estimates of costs to repair,
Y insurance appointed a surveyor to check the damage and supply comparison estimates, for what ever reason he informed Y he was unable to obtain alternative quotes, after considerable time and chasing Y / Topsail who had been taken over, but we were still dealing with the same person, we were informed that the surveyor had spoken to the yard and they had denied causing the damage, turns out the surveyor had been speaking to the wrong yard, when he eventually got around to speaking to the correct yard Kingston they denied the amount of damage that we are claiming for , Even when they were presented with photographs
Topsail have just informed me that due to the small amount of damage , a claim could not be submitted, but the surveyor had agreed with Kingston boat yard that they would pay a maximum of £200.00 on completion of work on receipt of an invoice, our estimate of damages is over two thousand pound including boat lift ,
We feel that we have been badly represented, by Topsail and welcome comments on how to next preceed.
