Would you use a lifeline and harness on a motorboat?

The obvious safety point...would be to put the boat engines into neutral before venturing outside if there isn’t anyone else onboard
That's ok on a calm sea but you wouldn't want to be beam on to the swell so I would want enough headway to keep the boat stable.

Going on deck in dangerous conditions on a moving boat ....would being dragged behind on a lifeline be a slow or torturous death ?

I wondered that. Or depending on the length of the lifeline if I fell off the bathing platform and now with waves etc was continually bashed against it since I was attached by the harness. I have seen some argument regarding sailing boats that depending on the length of the lifeline people can be literally dragged along by the boat with their head under the water.
I'm sure there are answers but these issues have come up.

It’s a bit like when seat belts became compulsory....and we all thought we would die in burning or drowning vehicles....or the introduction of motorcycle helmets....although I’m struggling to remember why we thought that was a bad idea

Been thinking about some answers and previous debates , about life jackets.
Why would anyone who believes they cannot fall off a mobo , use a harness.

There are a lot of if's, firstly we are not talking about a sailboat therefore you should be tethered to a kill switch. Larger boats are much more difficult to fall out of. Hopefully common sense will prevail and idiot's will always be idiot's.

If you boat alone, yes.....if the weather is rough, yes....but they should certainly be close at hand....and already adjusted to fit you
You only need a life jacket when something life threatening happens , are you that calm . To see a mob and you stop now put your jacket on the decide plan of action . You may also have to get your grab bag, but safety is captains responsibility .

It’s fine if you think you and people on your boat should wear them all the time.
I have a problem with the concept that “people” generally should wear them all the time which is what It looks like you are suggesting here.
I meant when the boat is on manovers.

There are engine cut outs that you can now fit where you carry a transmitter which cuts the engines should you fall overboard and the boat travels a preset distance away from you.

I’m not that familiar with the system but would wearing a safety line not stop this from activating?
