total height of vessel including mast lay along her deck MUST NOT exceed 12 feet for our specialised lifting service o 40k
Wounder if he means 12feet from mast base to end or the overlap aft?
Ask him.
As you mention height I assume it is a height restriction based on the route he would be using. Generally overhead lines etc must be more than 5.8 metres above the road surface, but some low bridges are there and can't be moved.
Question is....does he mean 12 ft above the road surface or above the bed of his transporter?

If he is using the right sort of equipment putting the mast on the trailer should be no problem. As long as a few strops are used to stop it "twanging"

I have asked for clarification but i assumed the 12ft was something to do with the lifting gear as he seems to be able to lift the boat onto his trailer with the trucks lifting gear.

Maybe I should just get a larger tank fitted. This would solve the capacity problem and the blocking of filters due to gunge.

Had an offer from a guy with a truck with a loader crane who will lift it move it and launch it for £1,800
Includes lorry loader crane lift on and off as well as the transport on a date to suit total height of vessel including mast lay along her deck MUST NOT exceed 12 feet for our specialised lifting service I can re launch with permission from Caernarfon, Dinas or Ffelinhelli as I am frequently there, a moody 30 fin keel is just on my height limit and would need confirming insured up to 40k

Wounder if this laying the mast puts a strain on it?
I'm tempted to take him up on the offer as then it is here for my holidays and I can work on it and get used to it. But I do feel i'm copping out of the challenge. My options are open so to speak. That fuel tank puts me off seen more fuel capacity in a zippo lighter.
I think putting her on a truck might be very wise. It could take some time to get from Essex to N Wales, you could spend a fortune on harbour and marina fees, whereas on a truck you know what it will cost and when it will be where you want it.

It's a boat! Sail the thing around for goodness sake! If the motor packs up, well you can always use the tender as a tug, scull or dare I suggest it, sail her.

If the weather is not too calm I would be happy to help you (the south coast being my usual cruising ground) but it has to be windy or I have to work...

I have single cylinder Volvo 2001 in a 26footer that ran for 26hours not stop in flat calm once. I think it's rated at 7.5 or maybe 9hp.

When in 1977/8 I bought a new Moody 30 they fitted a 25 hp Volvo as standard.
Perhaps the Beta at 20 hp slightly underpowers it.
(Brilliant Boat I wish I still had it)

I don't think bore polishing is the risk, but intuitively an occasional mini "Italian tuneup" feels like it could be good to blow out carbon from an engine being run relatively lightly.
Pete
Just a thought, in the "old days" when people swore by "RedX" mechanics when doing a "Tune up" would squirt neat RedX direct into the carburettor to clean out carbon deposits. Perhaps this could be tried on diesels, certainly worth a try.

that vis just what it was designed to do. engines are not designed to be a static lump

Similar to when i use exs car.She swears it goes better after i have 'de-coked' it.She is stuck in traffic all day so a good thrashing seems to work.
I never notice a cloud of smoke from the boat when i really rev it though?
