I've always thought boats should be given endearing or at least 'nice' names. So I did a double-take last year when I saw 'Evil Diana' written in large lettering across the stern of a very large Sunseeker in Poole. A horrible ex wife and a bitter ex husband perhaps?

What's the worst boat name you have seen?

Saw a bright red yacht up the Yealm called "Ready Salted"

Looked at one for sale called "Faustina" which didn't seem very nice. A female devil, and not even in a playful or provocative way.

I'm wondering if some bloke's lady has chosen to bat for 'the other side' ?
(Diana being the original feminist - the virgin goddess of Rome: protector of women and virgins in particular.)

Err - Faustina is a respected first name for a female. There have been empresses named that as well a St Faustina. Remember too that Dr Faustus was an old man seduced by Satan with the promise of eternal youth, and not Satanic himself (at least in Goethe's operatic tale) in the end he dies an old man repenting his pact with the devil.

Remember? I never knew it :D (not particularly well-versed on the classical literature, I'm afraid).

Still think it's an ugly name for a boat.

(Apologies to her old or new owner if he comes across this :) )

Not really classical literature but a tale from mediaeval folklore about a man who sold his soul to the devil that has been behind a whole heap of work from dusty novels and scholarly tomes to musicals, pop songs (Sympathy for the Devil), thrillers, ballets, opera and film (Pirates of the Caribbean.)

Take a look at this wiki for a starter.

I once had - in the 1980's - a half share in an old, incredibly slow International 14 dinghy; after being trounced by supposedly much slower boats, we painted it yellow and called it 'Coward's Way'...

I remember the name of my very first boat... 'Kerb Krawler'... how the hell could anyone name a boat that???

And I'd just like to point out, that I changed it before she touched the water!
