Has anyone got any experience of wooden trailable boats? Presumably as they spend a lot of the time out of the water, the maintenance problem is not such a big issue, assuming the boat is stored under cover. I see that you can now build a wooden version of the Cape Cutter 19 - is this likely to perform in a similar way to the GRP boat? Does anyone know the approximate cost of building a small boat like this?

Well!

Many thanks to all for the responses, although I am probably more unsure now than when I asked the question.

I would really like to know exactly what is the maintenance required.

Do you really have to spray the inards with Cuprinol?
Do you have to re-varnish everything every year?
Do you need to paint everything every year?

I wrote originally feeling P****ed off having spent 2/3 days polishing and bulling up the GRP and not made that much impression. But is there much more to do if the boat had been wood.

I have no intention of restoring/rebuilding a boat that is knackered to start with - seen too much heartache with that game but what if the boat is in good nick to start with?

Special thanks to Ian Dutton - loved the post

Bit worried about how Vic knows I have a beard and smoke a pipe, have I no secrets
