Crossed the Thames eastury on Saturday - could not believe the number of v large lumps of wood floating around, including huge 2 bundles with ties around them which were not far short of the size of a shipping container. The individual planks, of which we must have passed a couple of hundred, and had to weave around at one point, were about 12 inches square in section and about 20 - 25 ft long - more of a large log than a plank. Easily enough to punch a big hole your GRP hull at anything above a couple of knots. As for the bundles - it doesnt bear thinking about.
In the daylight it was hard enough to spot them - at night forget it. Thames coastguard is broadcasting warnings about these - it will pay to take these seriously.
Did these come from that freighter that jettisoned a load of timber last week off the s coast?
