Winterising water system

Morning.
I'm a newbie ! I've been lurking for a bit and have been impressed with what I have read and found out, so please be gentle !

I have just taken the plunge and moved up from a landau 20 and bought a merry fisher 805 with a tamd41 in her.

My question is how do I drain off the hot water system / water heater. I can't find it, I have found the cold water tank and filters but not the clarify ? Is that right?
I have the engine, sea toilet ect just the hot water system to go.

Not all boats have hot water on tap, but if you do:

First of all you need to empty the water tank. Leave the tap open until it is empty - and even after.

My boat, also French, is equipped with an EG Inox Sigmar Marine calorifier and the manual states:

a: Ensure that the power supply is disconnected
b: Cut off water supply to the heater
c: Open the safety/non return valve by lifting the valve lever
d: Loosen the pressure relief valve, if fitted, or the hot water pipie fitting (outlet from heater) until the heater begins to empty.


You may find "Drain Here" labels on the tank connections too, but be aware that the engine coolant circuit is protected by the anti-freeze mixture (as the engine itself) and should not be opened.

Dont forget to take pipe off toilet inlet and put a length of hose on it and suck a/freeze out of a bucket through the toilet as its not good enough to put in bowl and pump through as the valve gear in top of toilet will still have water in.

Is you boat in the water over the winter?
If it is, the ameliorating effect of the water means that the temperatures inside the boat rarely falls too far below freezing.
On the other hand if in air on a dockside somewhere then you need to be a lot more fastidious.

Thanks for that, but thats half the prob, I can't finder the water heater and there's Defo no drain here stickers !

She is out of the water chocked up, hence my post of wanting to get her 100% ready for when temp does drop.

According to the 805 manual p. 42 you don't have a water heater :confused:

If fitted (later), hoses from the engine head will lead to it...

I have found the heater this aft but it's not designed to be drained as far as I can tell because it will be most of the helm floor and interia out just to get to it.
But if it's anything like French car's I have to work on, then it prob is !
It's a pressurised system, does that make a difference? Eg if you run the taps out, is it all empty ?
To be sure I'm i will get some winter ban.

You need to drain the pump as well, even if you open the taps there is usually some water left in the pump. Just take the inlet pipe off the bottom and let the water drain out.
