winterising boat in lockdown I’m getting worried ????

This is all nonsense and stupid regarding Winterizing in the UK before the end of November. It simply wont be cold enough to do any damage what so ever. As for a few weeks of Mould (which wont happen also in the time) Just wipe it off when you go to the Boat in December.

Too many people have got there Priorities all wrong which quite frankly is why we are in the mess we are. People wont be sensible so have to be told what to do like children and even after that they look for ways to get round the rules. So many people being selfish, irresponsible and stupid.

I think you are the one that has their priorities all wrong.
Look at the risks from the wider perspective and have a bit of a think about where the surge in cases has actually come from.

Parties / Raves?
Different households mixing?
Pubs and Restaurants?
Public Transport?
Educational Establishments?
Going to the Gym?

If you think that people walking to their boat and doing a bit of maintenance has contributed, or will contribute to a surge in the cases of covid, then you’ve been reading too many comics.

It’s people that have focussed too much on the rules and not thought deeply enough about the risks that are the ones that have got us into the mess that we are currently in.
A lot of the rules that got relaxed over the Summer were to provide an economic kickstart, but were highly risky from a covid perspective, imho.

Look at the facts and the statistics.
Think about the actual risks, and the risks that the Government are asking you to take to keep the economy going.
Also carefully read the Govt restrictions, the advice from the RYA, and the link from MDL.

I think the concern for many is that it won’t just be four weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being two or three months so I am aiming to have it sorted before Thursday to give peace of mind. If I couldn’t get it done in time and lockdown continued beyond the four weeks then I would consider going to the boat to winterise it. For me the boat is close and visiting would be virtually risk free and certainly safer than going to the supermarket or DIY store, which are both definitely permitted. A moot point seeing as I am fortunate enough to be able to create the time to get it done in advance :)

This is my concern as well.

I’ve never had frost damage in November, but I have lost freshwater pipes and shower attachments in January, and the next phase of restrictions might well be harsher, so I need to get as much done as soon as I can.

Until such time as schools and universities are shut down and students taught remotely in-line it’s hard to see how people will take the latest seriously. Sadly Boris is out of touch with the populace I suspect and the prospect of a a labour victory grows daily I suspect as he continues to loose the respect of many of his core voters.

Just in case the lockdown is extended and the weather gets colder I went to my boat today and put the winter heaters in (on thermostats) and beefed up the moorings.
I don't think any further winterisation is absolutely necessary.
Now I'm quite at ease.

That's true.
While it's not people making short journeys to visit their boats that has caused a problem , neither is it possible to say 'use your own judgement '.

I know exactly what Peoples Priorities should be and have been effectively doing (within the rules and beyond) what we are expected to do in November for the last 7 Months. Are you part of the Problem or Part of the solution that is the simple question

It will be extended if stupid, Selfish and irresponsible people keep breaking the rules and don't abide by the spirit of want we are told to do .

People who break the rules should in my view be held to account by Society and treated with the contempt they deserve as I know is happening

Prospect of a Labour victory , that would finish us all off , well the people that work for a living for sure .

Err......Getting a tad political now innit ?...............You would have thought the forum "Gods" would have had the foresight to provide a forum or two for this sort of thing :)

This thread is very reminiscent of the threads that were going around in March. Not so much on this forum, but on the east coast one, where we had dictators telling others what can and can't be done. People were actually becoming vociferous in their chastisement of others wanting to check on their boats. If someone wants to drive to their boat and check on it so what. For me the more serious problem is those mindless morons who blatantly break the rules for their own satisfaction and not of necessity that are the problem. 700 people in Bristol. 70 person rave in Telford, 150 in a derelict pub in London, 200 on a rave in Thetford and it goes on and on. We've all seen the pictures on the news when Liverpool, Manchester and all went into tier 3 and crowds of younger people in the streets drinking. That's where the problem lies as far as I'm concerned and not with a few people who want to go down to their boats to check on them.

The problem is that we have too many curtain twitchers who are so scared of their own shadows and can't see the bigger picture of what is actually going on. It's the thousands of idiots who walk amongst us that are the real problem because they will never get it and it's because of them that we are in this situation, We boaters only make up a small proportion of the population and out of that small proportion an even smaller proportion want peace of mind by wishing to check on their boats. In the grand scheme of things I don't see those as a risk. I know where I would rather be, in a marina or boat yard with a few other sensible boaters than in a rave with 700 other mindless idiots.

For the current Welsh lockdown boats are specifically mentioned under non essential travel

"
Can I travel to and from my second home during the lockdown?

Until Monday 9 November at 12:01am, travel in Wales without a reasonable excuse is an offence. Travelling into, out of or within Wales to visit, check or inspect a holiday home or stay in a second home is not a reasonable excuse.

The same rules apply to caravans, boats and other temporary accommodation.

It is only too easy to accuse people of being selfish, unthinking of others and so on. perhaps better to have some empathy here. yes we have a virus running around. No it does not kill everyone, in fact it is likely it will have an MR of circa 0.2 to 0.4% is my bet. This is the same as measles by the way which killed children mainly and which we lived with for generations without locking down the country/economy. Same re malaria which incidentally killed 300mm in the 20th Century. People are losing their jobs, permanently in many cases. Our kids’ prospects for the future are going up in smoke by the day. Yes it is not good to see 700 person raves but perhaps we should ask a more fundamental question - why are they happening? If we answer this we may be able to get a balance to what is happening now. If you were young and starting to realise that unlike your parents or many of us, the prospects of a job when you leave Uni have just greatly dismissed, then perhaps you would think and act differently. So this issue needs to be considered from all sides and frankly when i read people pontificating about other selfish people i cannot help but think that perhaps those of us who are older are also being selfish. Anyway, thread drift, but perhaps we should step back and have a little more empathy in general. And hey, last I looked we used to live in a free society that valued its civil liberties, things that cost many many lives to get us to the society we live in today (or used to). Telling us we can not go on holiday should we so choose and if the other country is willing to accept us is at least IMHO a hell of a thing to do in a free society. Perhaps one day Boris will suggest that we should all hold hands and leap collectively off the cliffs of Dover so we can end the scourge of CV. It would be interesting to see how many people refused. Anyway, am sure tons of abuse coming in this direction but the day one gets abused for free speech is a sad day.

No abuse coming from here. We are now living under a dictatorship and peoples jobs, lives, health, living are all going to suffer. We have lost all freedom. This virus is not going away and neither are lockdowns. How many times can you mess with people?

I can have empathy for stupid but not selfish. Where that buck stops is delusions of entitlement that pander to personal desire rather than need, and the excuses made to justify it. I think it's safe to say the vast majority here have had reasonable financial success in life (they own a boat) because they're not stupid (but owning a boat does make this a bit of a moot point). Unfortunately you are all in the minority and unless you want to reintroduce a tiered class system based on intellectual agility you are ruled by the lowest common denominator. Stupid. The biggest mistake we make is in saying it's the few who ruin it, but I beg to differ. Having seen the complete disregard for social distancing after the end of the last lockdown in my neck of the woods where holiday punters line up on the quayside walls 3 deep so the kids can throw crablines in I'd say stupid is pretty much the norm. C'est la vie. And on a purely selfish note, I may not have to replace prop shaft seals this year thanks to all the lines discarded into the river and my canvas may not be covered in 2 inches of seagull poo too.

Angling Trust Seek Clarity on Angling during Lockdown-2
02 November 2020
Angling Trust staff have been working hard over the weekend to ensure that angling in England can continue during the forthcoming lockdown. Unlike golf and tennis the government have not asked fisheries to close and their announcement and guidance makes clear that outdoor recreation at ‘parks and gardens’ and at ‘beaches and in the ‘countryside’ is to be deemed a legitimate reason for leaving home from November 5th. The travel guidance was updated yesterday and it seems that short journeys from home for these purposes are to be permitted. There are a number of other issues on which we are seeking clarification and a copy of our letter to the Secretary of State at DCMS can be downloaded below for those wanting to see more. We are hearing that the final regulations will not now be published until Wednesday but we will update everybody the moment we know more. We remain confident that we will still be fishing from Thursday so please be patient!

I am just the messenger – so make from the above statement what you will!!
No word yet as far as I can see from the RYA

I think sums up the mess. There are a number of things that either need clarifying or simply make no sense. I can for example go for a walk with you - even if we don’t know each other - but cannot go and have a game of golf with my wife. Or play tennis although I assume that i could do so should i have my own tennis court. Until there is a really clear message with a really clear set of guidance or rules that make sense, no amount of laws are going to stop people shrugging their shoulders and ignoring.

What annoyed me was seeing, on Saturday, Chris Whitty - Chief Medical Officer for England, - Chief Medical Adviser to the UK Government walking into No10 with no face covering.
