Had a fantastic charter this weekend (Solent) Although cold got the Musto and Dubarrys on and had a great time. I was quite surprised how busy Yarmouth was on the Sat night, nearly all pontoons full

We were going to go out this weekend but Mrs E's computer bit the dust Friday and I spent two days working for Bill Gates and his XP limpware. I think XP is shorthand for exasperate for profit.

Surprised to hear Yarmouth was so busy. Great time of year to be sailing, if you have the gear and a decent heater.

Mrs Magic Sailor doesn't always want to go sailing when its cold. Does anyone want to sort of club together to make up crews for solent day sailing for a bit of fun?

Nah. SWMBO says I've got yo stay in and babysit the carpenter.

"Why should it be me who always has to stay in?" she says.

Self evident I'd've thought!

Re: Channel trip

Forecast is E or NE 3/4. I'll go as long as there's no F6 or higher FCast. Looking at chart I'd be very surprised if there was! Fully expecting to have to motor at least some of the way back!

Re: Channel trip

metcheck is giving no more than 5 and generally good weather over the Friday to Monday period so you should have a nice trip, bon voyage!

Just been down to the boat to put galley sink back together -all complete and boat is ready to go but I'm in Norway hope to get back Friday...

Will try to log on from Oslo to update - I'm keen to stock up for Christmas also.

Re: Cherbourg

We have touched on this port in our Yachtmaster, big tides apparantly, will you be drying out or what, give us the passage plan Jimi, traffic separation, tidal streams, leeway, deviation, waypoints etc - the lot! I can then translate this onto my RYA chart 1 in some form or other and we'll be with you in spirit so to speak:))

Re: Cherbourg

Nae problem! Its neaps, key point is to hit the tidal gateway at the Needles, I'll need to be past them by 11pm. Should take c10hrs from there so I'll steer 0 degrees for first 6 hours then aim to be a half a mile uptide as I approach, not critical as its neaps and there's the second entrance if I miss the first. Its a deep all weather port so no real issue, just head for the marina taking care to not cut inside the wee red buoy at the Ile de Pelee (think that's what its called) as it will be close to LW at Cherbourg. Log entry every hour with position, speed & course steered. If weather gets crappo either keep going or head back depending how far out we are. How does that sound?

Jim:)
