Re: Cherbourg

Done it a few times, however not in that direction :) Steering 0 Degrees is of course the geat circle route via Santa Claus. I shall of course head in the opposite direction ie due south!

Re: new boat

aside form being tres busy at vurk, am suffering from acute 'new boatitis' at present so have been toing and froing most week-ends cleaning and checking and cleaning and fiddling and sorting stuff out then looking at things and scratching my head then chatting with dealer then cleaning and remooring. She is fine and dandy and am delighted so far, have bought 4 big fenders following the storm; the new furlex is now on, the sails and stacker bag are made but have not got em on yet as things are moving a little slow, the rigger chappie has been delayed for personal (understandable) reasons so only motored about at present. When sails are on will take em off again, just to be awkward (well for winter actually!), spinnaker looks cool, blue with big gold merc type star in middle. Have got to get a name sticker made and decide on which safety bits and bobs to buy, could be the subject of a post. Not got to grips with the plotter yet 'cause am waiting till March to get the chip, but have managed to work the oven out, so am expert at heating pasties up! yummy.

All in all am pleased with it, off to the Musto shop at Bicester on Friday to get some gear for the kiddywinks and SWMBO, lots of bargains!

I'm wait listed on the 1310 arrival Heathrow so keeping fingers crossed.

Passage plan: we'll go out East Solent leaving Northney around 6pm to be at Bembridge ledge for HW and get tidal lift round back of IOW. Head 198T for Cherbourg and adjust for E going tide as we get closer to stay up-tide entrance. Distance from Bembridge c64M so should arrive Cherbourg around 7am, perhaps a bit earlier if we're lucky with the winds. Taking thermals!

If weather behaves as predicted we may even enjoy light SE'ly for return,- what's the real chance of this happening?

Re: Musto

Had a quick shufty today en route to xmas party, stuff they can't sell is about 30-50% off, always hard to say for others if it is worth a trip. I specifically want a jacket for daughter, they have some nice ones with a fleece etc for £70, down from a £100. not the colour she wants so its a non starter, summer waterproof lightweight jackets 'caribean' are £50. lots of fleeces and ex Volvo stuff is cheapish. As a shopping centre its not bad, generally I hate 'em!
