Winter in Croatia

I hope to sail to Croatia by July this summer and if everything up to expectation I am thinking of taking a 9 month berth including the winter 2003/4

Would appreciate any suggested locations with reasonable access to flights UK or Ferry Ancona/Easyjet to London.

most operators do cheap flights to Milan Bergamo airport . 16 quid return for June i am paying. From there there is a rail link to ancona and ferry to Split.. The train takes i dunno howlong but it is a long trip and the ferry leaves at around 9 in the evening and arrives seven next morning. this was too much for us. and we were committed to the Milan part.

ryan air fly from stansted direct to ancona.
flights are dirt cheap at the mo. £3.99 one way.
so that would be my preferred route.

direct flights in and out of croatia were too expensive.

Hi folks, just saw the post. Re arriving in Croatia, the Milan-Ancona route is one option (train time 4-5 hours). Train times here: http://www.jadrolinija.hr/jlenglish.nsf/timeframe?OpenFrameSet
If you come further north, to Istria, there are plenty of buses from Trieste.

As for wintering in Croatia, costs vary.
Istria: Umago, a good marina much used by Austrians, safe haven only 1 hour from Trieste: euro 1763, Rovinj 1435, Pula 974 (annual costs).
Dalmatia: don't know but can find out. All the marinas are well-equipped, theft as far as I know is not an issue. The further south you go, the longer it will take you to get back to the UK, of course. Dubrovnik has a good marina a little out of town in the grounds of an old villa. Well sheltered. With Split, you are well-placed for the Kornati, but there's a lot of charter traffic and this is also the biggest town on the coast. Zadar also well-placed, big enough to have everything you need, but you can walk to the centre (or catch the rowboat across the harbour) and to the bus station (15 mins).
