Windscreen wiper arms

Anybody got any tips for removing automotive-style windscreen wiper arms on a Fairline Turbo 36? Mine have gone rusty and need replacing. I assume the cap that fits over the motor spindle is meant to hinge up and reveal a nut, like it does (or used to) on a car. Needless to say, the cap seems to have seized and welded itself to the nut and no amount of WD40 and general leverage has shifted it so far. The flybrige overhangs the windscreen somewhat and obstructs access to the spindle with meaningful tools - hacksaw, angle grinder, cold chisel etc. Oh, and the spindle is mounted through the windscreen glass, so let's go easy here, okay?

Regards, hopefully,

Nigel

The ones I have do not have a nut, the fitting goes onto a knurled spline, sometimes with a locking screw. I've had the same problem, they do weld themselves on with the corrosion, unfortunately if you can't prise it off with screwdrivers or the like it's out with the hacksaw! :~(

BTW If you do use the hacksaw try and cut the metal only on the wiper blade, probably need to do it in several places so you can prise it off. You will then be able to clean up the spindle and put your new arm straight back on. Make sure you cover it with plenty of waterproof grease to prevent this happening again.

I'd kinda resigned myself to a hacksaw. Thanks

My wife used a Nut Splitter on me not long after we were wed. That's why I have a squeaky voice.

WD40 is not the best product on the market for getting rusted parts to move again. Try T9 developed by boeing, if that wont do it then use the hacksaw!
